Martini, who ran at Ramsey Junior High before coming to Southside, held off Greenwood standouts Taylor Koeth (21:03.0) and Macie Cash (22:02.1). “She ran out real strong and I think she had the confidence to push hard in her first mile,” Southside coach Aaron Kareus said. “She’s strong. She works hard every day.” Martini was almost a full minute faster than she was two weeks ago, Kareus said. Greenwood coach Jim Andrews was pleased with Koeth’s and Cash’s efforts, too. “We’ve had a tough week of practice, so they ran well for what we did,” Andrews said. “It was just another practice, this early in the season. I think they’re a little disappointed in their times, but I’m not. I’m happy with where they’re at.” Heather Boone led Northside to a third place overall finish with a time of 34:43.7. Mansfield ran way with the small-school division. Alyssa Berry took first with a time of 28:01.01, followed by third-place finisher Josefin Loving (28:29.1). Scranton’s Whitney Fox was second (27:04.5) and Magazine’s Carlee Parrish was third overall (28:01.1). Magazine’s Levi Wright was fourth overall (19:46.5) in the small-school division.
